Nose to Mouth lines
What are nose to mouth lines?
For most of us, nose to mouth lines / smile lines – also known as nasolabial folds – are nothing to smile about. These lines and creases run from the side of the nose to the corner of the mouth, and are the result of the loss of facial volume and skin elasticity as we age.
Nose to mouth lines are a natural part of the ageing process, but some people may choose to get rid of them for cosmetic reasons. There are a number of treatments available to address nasolabial folds, including surgical and non-surgical solutions.
What Causes nose to mouth lines
They are different from other lines on the face in that they do not always mean age. Laugh lines/nose to mouth lines appear due to repeated movement. Great talkers and smilers are more likely to have deep nose to mouth lines than people who have little to say. This is how teenagers and people in their 20’s may have noticeable nose to mouth lines but the skin on the rest of their face is smooth.
Deeper more pronounced nose to mouth lines that are apparent even when you are not smiling could point to the usual culprits in skin wrinkling. Age, damage from the sun exposure and collagen and elasticity habits like smoking. With little elasticity, most skin on the face begins to sag and cheeks fall. When cheeks fall, the nasolabial fold also collapses resulting in laugh lines.

How To Prevent nose to mouth lines
Wrinkles occur due to a depletion of collagen and elastin in the skin caused by age or sun damage. The effects of this change in the skin’s texture and conditions can be improved by following a strict skincare regime which incorporates a moisturiser containing peptides and vitamin A, plus a good exfoliator. This won’t remove the lines but might help soften their appearance.
Some suggest that facial exercises such as face yoga and facial massage can help reduce lines around the nose and mouth.
